What is a “Definition of Person” clause?..
The word ‘person’ is defined in legal documents to make drafting clearer and simpler. Since ‘person’ can refer to both natural persons (human beings with legal status), and legal persons (e.g. corporations, trusts, partnerships etc.), the word ‘person’ can be used in a document to refer unambiguously to both people and legal entities, if the definition includes both. In some agreements, ‘person’ may be defined to exclude either natural persons, or legal persons, depending on the context.
